Zappware develops Flexview functionality for Telenet
07/08/2006
A Belgian premiere: first commercial hard-disk application on Multimedia Home Platform.
Zappware, the Belgian one-stop provider of interactive digital television solutions, has successfully completed the creation and development of the 'Flexview' functionality of Telenet's Digicorder. This is the first commercial hard-disk application in the open standard Multimedia Home Platform (MHP) to be supplied in Belgium.
In the initial phase, the creative team at Zappware worked on the look and feel of the application in co-operation with the Telenet product-marketing group. The focus here was mainly on the user-friendliness and integration in the existing Digibox functionalities.
In a second phase, Zappware developed the final software layer on top of the existing hardware, in the open standard of MHP. This software enables the Telenet viewer to record television programmes from the EPG (electronic programme guide). He can also pause live broadcasts and rewind to earlier fragments during programmes, before fast-forwarding again.
Koen Swings, Managing Partner at Zappware:"This development offers both the viewers and the operators revolutionary new possibilities. The viewer is no longer restricted to the programming schedule of the broadcaster, and can enjoy a more personalised television experience. Operators gain the possibility of storing both content and applications on the set-top box hard disk. We believe that this evolution will have a big impact on the viewer's television experience."
