Zappware first to enhance a TV program with a game
05/04/2007
Poker game serves as red-button application for Temptation Island.
Zappware, the Belgian one-stop solution provider for iDTV solutions, developed another interactive application for Temptation Island, TV format owned by SBS broadcaster VT4. Last year the interactivity consisted of a 'romance test' during commercials, resulting in 'your romantic profile' at the end of the programme. This year the idea is to cling viewers to the VT4 screen during commercials with a game about temptation: strip poker!
The poker game is free and can be played during the programme 8 weeks long, 2 episodes a week. Then the game will be available through the renewed VT4 digitext, which digital viewers can display on their TV screen when pressing the teletext button of the VT4 channel. How does the strip poker game work?
You start out with 30 fictive euros. As of 100 euro Melissa (on Monday) and Amina (on Thursday) start "undressing": photos are shown on which these bachelorettes starring in Temptation Island wear less and less clothes.
Response rates look promising. Over one episode 5% of the digital VT4 viewers were seduced to play along. Not bad if you know there was no promotion whatsoever to promote the application apart from the red button itself.
The Zappware game operates on the Telenet platform.
Marc Vervoort, iDTV Producer: "Zappware confirms again its pioneer's role in the domain of iDTV. It is the first time in the Belgian iDTV landscape that a game is developed to enhance a programme."
