Zappware delivers iDTV core services to Swiss cable operator ESR Sion
18/04/2008

Successful deployment of "iView for Operators" on HD set-top box from Motorola/KreaTV

Zappware, the Belgian one-stop solution provider for iDTV services which are TV-platform independent, have successfully delivered a series of interactive services to Swiss cable operator ESR Sion (www.esr.ch). These services run on High-Definition set-top boxes from Motorola and are to be deployed on ESR's cable network desserving the city of Sion (Valais). These innovative and interactive services are proposed under the label "netcomTV" (www.netcomTV.ch).

"netcomTV" includes High-Definition TV (HD TV), an interactive Portal, an Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) and Settings but also advanced services such as StartOver TV, Catch-Up TV and Network PVR (nPVR). StartOver TV and Catch-Up TV both allow digital viewers to order TV programs that have recently been broadcast or are in the process of being broadcast either by browsing a VOD catalogue (Catch-Up TV) or by navigating the EPG back in time (StartOver TV). The quota-based nPVR (network PVR) makes subscribers record programmes from within the EPG and play them back over the network.

The "netcomTV" offer is based on Zappware's "iView for Operators" which is an integrated suite of TV-platform independent services that are available on a broad range of set-top box and middleware combinations. The "netcomTV" services were deployed on the Motorola 1920C hybrid DVB-C/IP set-top box running the KreaTV middleware. The VOD service was integrated with VOD management products from EventIS, VOD servers from Motorola and conditional access from Latens.

Zappware's TV-platform independent suite of iDTV services will be demoed at the Cable Congress 08, IFEMA (booth 13), Madrid, from April 23 to April 25. Zappware will also showcase the production and management capabilities of their iView Platform allowing operators and broadcasters to create, update and deploy applications. More information on the Cable Congress 08: www.cablecongress.com.

Patrick Vos, Director Business Development Zappware: "We deliver interactive services which are TV-platform independent (MHP, OpenTV, IPTV..) and which we have pre-integrated with a variety of EPG and VOD technology vendors. This off-the-shelf, pre-integrated approach allows small- and mid-size operators to offer a cutting-edge suite of iDTV applications to their subscribers, independent of the set-top-box/middleware platform and/or head-end technology selected by these operators".

Dominique Barras, CTO of ESR Sion: "We have selected this solution because it offers High-Definition TV in combination with state-of-the-art pre-integrated VOD features such as StartOver TV, Catch-Up TV and Network PVR. Now we are sure to offer our viewers a unique digital TV experience."
