Zappware delivers platform-independent EPG service for Swiss cable operator Télégenève
27/05/2008
Custom development with "iView Platform" results in a platform-independent EPG service
Zappware, the Belgian one-stop solution provider for iDTV on multiple TV platforms, have developed a custom Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) service for Geneva-based cable operator Télégenève who offers a digital TV service to their customers under the brand name of "naxoo".
Zappware have built the custom naxoo EPG service using their proprietor iView Platform which is a flexible, platform-independent production environment for the creation and/or modification of iDTV services.
The objective was to redesign the existing naxoo EPG while keeping the same look and feel and extending its features. From the start the naxoo EPG allows the viewer to consult programme info from 140 channels and to plan his/her recordings. What's new:
- viewer can now search the EPG by filling in random keywords (and not only by selecting a category or the channel language)
- viewer can now consult the EPG 8 days ahead instead of 5
- viewer now also has another way to navigate the EPG besides the channel view
- recorded/scheduled programmes are now visually marked
The naxoo EPG operates on the ADB set-top box running the Osmosys MHP middleware and comprises EPG server software to handle the EPG data provided by various content providers.
Patrick Vos, Director Business Development Zappware: "The naxoo EPG redesign proves our expertise in designing custom services that can be deployed on multiple tv platforms."
Phong Pham, CTO Télégenève: "We have chosen Zappware because of their platform-independent approach which is a major strategic asset. It means that we are not tied down to specific STB/middleware vendors and that we can evolve our TV platform without having to interrupt our interactive services for our customers today."
