Modular and scalable database platform for subscriber/viewer management and interaction measurement

At IBC 2008, Zappware - a Belgian one-stop solution provider for interactive digital TV (iDTV) on multiple TV platforms - will release a server platform for iDTV dubbed "iView Interaction Manager". iView Interaction Manager is a modular and scalable server platform that operators and/or broadcasters can deploy in order to manage subscriber/viewer profiles and measure subscriber/viewer activities.

Zappware's iView Interaction Manager comes pre-equipped with the following services:

• Profile Management: to manage subscriber and/or viewer profiles and provide permanent storage for all subscriber/viewer-related data
• Logging: to capture all activities that subscribers and/or viewers perform, either by operating the set-top box or by starting and navigating iDTV services
• Response Management: to capture subscriber/viewer responses to services such as quizzes, poll/votes or direct-marketing campaigns
• Response Aggregation: to aggregate subscriber/viewer responses to other digital platforms such as mobile SMS, traditional interactive voice response systems and the Internet.

Besides providing pre-equipped services as described above, iView Interaction Manager also allows the operator and/or broadcaster to easily customize the system and change the existing services or create additional ones. These customizations can all be done without any programming effort so that they can be deployed with a very short time-to-market.

iView Interaction Manager is a proven system that has been operated in pre-launch mode for more than one year on an interactive digital TV network of 500K subscribers. It comprises a server cluster system that can be scaled to accommodate any number of subscribers or viewers, and that includes state-of-the-art cluster features such as load-balancing, failover and built-in security.

iView Interaction Manager is also part of Zappware's "iView Platform" and complements:

• iView Portal, a web-based system for managing the content and the deployment of interactive services;
• iView Producer, a visual authoring environment for adapting the look-and-feel of interactive services; and
• iView Playout Manager, a broadcaster playout automation system for managing the life-cycle of programme-related interactive services.

Through the integration of iView Interaction Manager with iView Portal, Zappware can provide operators and broadcasters with a web-based access portal to visualize and analyse response and/or logging results.

The iView Platform services are key in Zappware's iDTV offering for operators (an electronic programme guide (EPG), video-on-demand (VOD), personal video recording (PVR) and network PVR) and for broadcasters (Digital Teletext, Quizzes, Interactive Advertising and Games).

Zappware's iView Interaction Manager is to be launched at IBC (the International Broadcasting Convention), Europe's largest and most important event for the media content business.
