Mongolia’s Skytel opts for our NEXX5 Solution to power its next generation OTT service
One of Mongolia’s leading telecom and media groups signs a long-term agreement with ZEGi, bringing NEXX5 to a new market in Asia.
Zappware Entertainment Group International (ZEGi) today announced that Skytel Group, through its media subsidiary SKYmedia, has selected NEXX5 as the platform for its next-generation OTT service. Under a partnership agreement signed this summer, ZEGi will deliver its end-to-end NEXX5 platform, including the multi-screen client framework and its flexible Entertainment Control Center, as the foundation of Skytel’s streaming offer for the years ahead.
Founded in 1999 as Mongolia’s second mobile operator, Skytel Group has grown into one of the country’s largest ICT groups. Skytel is part of Shunkhlai Group, alongside SKYmedia, Media Group, and NTV. Together, they cover the full content and business value chain from production to distribution.
Skytel launched the IPTV business in 2012. ZEGi, first shortlisted back in 2018, is now its third OTT middleware partner. In 2026, Skytel chose ZEGi to expand its customer base, reaching Mongolians in more than 107 countries around the world. Skytel holds 50% of the Mongolian OTT market, making it the country’s largest OTT player. With demand for video on every screen growing fast, Skytel set out to find a platform that would let it move faster, offer more and keep full control over the experience it delivers.
NEXX5 gives Skytel a single versatile platform for live TV, catch-up, smart TVs, smartphones, tablets and web. The Entertainment Control Center (ECC5) puts Skytel’s content, marketing and product teams in charge of the user experience, content rules, packaging and promotions, from personalised screens and subscription channels to branded “Worlds of experience” built around specific audiences or partners, without having to wait for development cycles. The platform integrates with Skytel’s existing video delivery and security infrastructure, protecting the investments already made in encoding, CDN and DRM.
The agreement extends ZEGi’s footprint in Asia and marks the group’s first deployment in Mongolia.
We chose ZEGi because it’s a top-tier, proven solution in video streaming. Mongolians watch more video, on more screens, and we want SKYmedia to be where they go for it. SKYmedia’s strategy is shifting toward becoming a tech-driven software company, and we see ZEGi as the key partner in that transformation. The NEXX5 platform stood out because it gives us both a platform that’s ready today and the tools to shape it tomorrow. With ZEGi, we have a partner that thinks in years, not releases. This is exactly the relationship we want as we take our streaming business to the next level.”
Wherever our viewers go, the TV, the mobile, tablet, anywhere, SKYmedia should feel like it was made just for them. With NEXX5 solution, we are aiming to design every screen around what each viewer actually wants to watch, not a one-size-fits-all layout. That personal touch is what keeps SKYmedia the first place Mongolians come for video.
Skytel is an ambitious operator in a market that is moving fast, and we are delighted they have chosen NEXX5 to build on. This is what NEXX5 was made for: giving an operator a complete, proven platform while leaving them fully in control of their own experience and roadmap. A ten-year agreement is a strong endorsement of the way we work. We look forward to launching SKYmedia’s new service together and to growing with Skytel over the coming years.
